Dr. Whyte obtained her Ph.D from Aberdeen University, a post-doctoral fellowship from Stirling University and an MBA from the University of Prince Edward Island. She has been employed by both academic institutions and private industry and has extensive professional experience in contract research in Canada and internationally. She has considerable experience in the design, execution and validation of preliminary and confirmatory laboratory and field studies, in the capacity of research scientist and manages the major projects within the research group.

Dr. Whyte is an advisor and consultant to external clients, providing recommendations, budgets, briefing materials, data analysis, reports and planning documents and, is a scientific reviewer for industry grant applications and scientific manuscripts for journal publication. Dr. Shona Whyte is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Pathology and Microbiology, and Graduate Program Faculty at the Atlantic Veterinary College and serves on several graduate committees, either in a supervisory or examiner capacity.
